Heavy metal contamination of water sources has emerged as a major global environmental concern, threatening both aquatic ecosystems and human health. pollution in the environment is on rise due to industrialization, climate change, urbanization. Sources include mining waste, landfill leachates, municipal industrial wastewater, urban runoff, natural phenomena such volcanic eruptions, weathering, rock abrasion. ions are toxic, potentially carcinogenic, can bioaccumulate biological systems. metals cause harm various organs, including neurological system, liver, lungs, kidneys, stomach, skin, reproductive systems, even at low exposure levels. Efforts find efficient methods remove heavy from wastewater have increased recent years. Although some approaches effectively contaminants, their high preparation usage costs may limit practical applications. Many review articles been published toxicity treatment for removing wastewater. This focuses main pollution, chemical transformation, toxicological impacts environment, harmful effects ecosystem. It also examines advances cost-effective techniques physicochemical adsorption using biochar zeolite ion exchangers, well decomposition complexes through advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Finally, advantages, applications, future potential these discussed, along with any challenges limitations that must be considered.

Abstract The chemical regeneration process has been extensively applied to reactivate biochar, supporting its reusability and leading significant operating cost reduction. However, no recent review discusses the effectiveness of biochar regeneration. Thus, this article comprehensively reviews contaminated with organic inorganic pollutants. Performance depends on adsorption mechanism, functional groups, adsorbent pore structure, changes in active sites. Secondary contamination is one challenges facing sustainable adaptation industry. paper these draws a roadmap for future research support wastewater treatment by biochar.

Access to drinkable water is becoming more and challenging due worldwide pollution the cost of treatments. Water wastewater treatment by adsorption on solid materials usually cheap effective in removing contaminants, yet classical adsorbents are not sustainable because they derived from fossil fuels, can induce secondary pollution. Therefore, biological sorbents made modern biomass increasingly studied as promising alternatives. Indeed, such biosorbents utilize waste that would otherwise pollute systems, promote circular economy. Here we review biosorbents, magnetic sorbents, other cost-effective with emphasis preparation methods, types, mechanisms, regeneration spent adsorbents. Biosorbents prepared a wide range materials, including wood, bacteria, algae, herbaceous agricultural waste, animal waste. Commonly removed contaminants comprise dyes, heavy metals, radionuclides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products. Preparation methods include coprecipitation, thermal decomposition, microwave irradiation, chemical reduction, micro-emulsion, arc discharge. Adsorbents be classified into activated carbon, biochar, lignocellulosic clays, zeolites, peat, humic soils. We detail isotherms kinetics. Regeneration supercritical fluid desorption. also discuss exhausted adsorbent management disposal. found agro-waste remove up 68–100% while wooden, herbaceous, bacterial, marine-based 55–99% metals. Animal waste-based 1–99% The average removal efficiency modified around 90–95%, but some treatments, cross-linked beads, may negatively affect their efficiency.

Abstract New multi-featured adsorbent beads were fabricated through impregnation of sulfonated graphene (SGO) oxide into cellulose acetate (CA) for fast adsorption cationic methylene blue (MB) dye. The formulated SGO@CA composite thoroughly characterized by several tools including FTIR, TGA, SEM, XRD, XPS and zeta potential. optimal levels the most significant identified variables affecting process sequential determined response surface methodology (RSM) using Plackett–Burman Box–Behnken designs. gained results denoted that displayed higher negative charges (− 42.2 mV) compared to − 35.7 38.7 mV pristine CA SGO, respectively. In addition, floated demonstrated excellent floating property, easy separation. performance was accomplished rapidly, since equilibrium closely gotten within 30 min. Furthermore, capacity greatly improved with increasing SGO content from 10 30%. obtained data followed pseudo-second order kinetic model agreed Langmuir isotherm a maximum reached 234.74 mg g −1 . thermodynamic studies designated spontaneity endothermic nature MB dye adsorption. Besides, exposed acceptable characteristics six successive reuse cycles, in addition their better selectivity towards crystal violet anionic Congo red dyes. These findings assume could be used effectively as highly efficient, separable reusable adsorbents removal toxic
