Antibiotics, the most frequently prescribed drugs, have been widely applied to prevent or cure human and veterinary diseases undoubtedly led massive releases into sewer networks wastewater treatment systems, a hotspot where occurrence transformation of antibiotic resistance take place. Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), biopolymers secreted via microbial activity, play an important role in cell adhesion, nutrient retention, toxicity resistance. However, potential roles sludge EPS related removal antibiotics are still unclear. This work summarizes composition physicochemical characteristics state-of-the-art EPS, highlights critical removal, evaluates their defense performances under different exposures, analyzes typical factors that could affect sorption biotransformation behavior antibiotics. Next, interactions between genes analyzed. Future perspectives, especially engineering application for detection defense, also emphatically stressed.

MIL-101(Fe)-based catalysts have been widely used for degradation of organic pollutants based on peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Hence, a facile calcination and hydrothermal method was in this study to prepare MIL-101(Fe)/g-C3N4 composite catalyst with high activity stability PMS activation degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) under visible-light irradiation. We clearly elucidated the mechanism involved photo Fenton-catalyzed process by separating pollutant oxidation processes. The synergetic effects MIL-101(Fe) g-C3N4 acting as an electron shuttle mediating transfer from substrate PMS, accompanied redox cycling surface Fe(II)/Fe(III). Multiple experimental results indicated that bound during visible irradiation generation sulfate radicals (SO4•-), hydroxyl (•OH) superoxide anion free (•O2-) radical pathway singlet oxygen (1O2) holes (h+) nonradical pathway. major pathways TC can be described demethylation, deamination, deamidation carbonylation. This work provides valuable information advances fundamental understanding needed design syntheses metal-free conjugated polymers modified metal-organic frameworks heterogeneous photo-Fenton reactions.
