Conventional biological nutrient removal processes rely on external aeration and produce significant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This study constructed a phototrophic simultaneous nitrification-denitrification phosphorus (P-SNDPR) system to treat low nitrogen (C/N) ratios wastewater investigated the impact of sludge retention time (SRT) performance, conversion pathway, microbial structure. Results showed that P-SNDPR at SRT 15 days had highest capacity, achieving over 85% 98% phosphorus, respectively, meanwhile maintaining minimal CO2 Nitrogen was mainly through assimilation SRTs 5 10 days, 20 days. Stable partial nitrification facilitated by photoinhibition DO levels. Flow cytometry sorting technique results revealed drove community structural changes in translational activity (BONCAT+) microbes, where BONCAT+ microbes were bacteria (Candidatus Accumulibacter), denitrifying Competibacter Plasticicumulans), ammonia-oxidizing (Nitrosomonas), microalgae (Chlorella Dictyosphaerium). The represents novel, carbon-neutral process for efficient from C/N ratio without source additions.
