The emission of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in dry season from the open biomass burning has caused a long-term negative impact on residents' health Northern Thailand. This study takes Chiang Mai and Rai provinces Thailand as areas to identify pollution episodes, analyze PM2.5 source trajectories, finally propose control strategies accordingly. levels during 2019–2021 three representative air monitoring stations (i.e., Chaing Mai-35T, Rai-57T, Mae Sai-73T) these two were collected analyzed. Air Quality Index (AQI) defined by level higher than 91 µg m-3 causing serious adverse effects was adopted define periods having levels, days episodes identified. Based we applied backward trajectory model sources pollutants. Results showed that significantly between February April compared with other months at all stations, indicating severity episode season. demonstrated mass transported through or nearby mountain (categorized long- short-transport-distance) contributed up 21.6% 75.9% total mass, respectively. Although residents mountainous are accustomed burning, suggested there should be urgent needs for improvement quality provinces. Therefore, this proposes some including prevention knowledge, increase risk perception, cultivation protection behavior, intensification social influence. In addition reducing pollution, plan also co-benefit achieving resources recycling concomitantly. Providing effective management may reduce Thai residents.
