Abstract A novel process of alkali-heat pretreatment - mixed culture fermentation was proposed to produce butyric acid from rice straw, but generating waste (PW) and (FW). In this study, the feasibility methane wastes confirmed, with production PW FW 351.1 ± 11.8 741.5 14.2 mLCH4/gVS, respectively. The initial pH VFW/VPW using were optimized at 7.5 1.8, also verified by operating two anaerobic digesters in sequencing batch mode. At 0.25 (actual ratio), 301.20 mLCH4/gVS load 0.64 kgVS/m³/d. When 1.8 (optimal reached 396.45 1.20 kgVS/m3/d. This study facilitates comprehensive utilization all components within straw.
