Three wastewater sources, namely slaughterhouse wastewater, cheese whey, and wine lees, were used for volatile fatty acid (VFA) production with the aim of reducing polluted discharge to water bodies creating a useful product. Cheese whey lees proved be good substrates produce VFAs, obtaining maximum bioconversion percentages in g COD-VFA/g TCOD initial 90% 72% respectively. The composition VFAs produced from each stream varied, acetic, propionic, isobutyric, isovaleric acids being most dominant. These as an environmentally friendly fungicide against Fusarium culmorum, resulting reduction radial mycelial growth culmorum all effluents tested. A thermal pretreatment resulted improved antifungal efficiency if compared untreated or UV pretreatment.
