Partial nitrification has the advantages of saving energy and reducing need for carbon sources in municipal wastewater treatment. However, with low ammonia, start-up maintenance partial is a worldwide challenge. Here we developed pilot-scale double sludge system consisting two sequencing batch reactors (12 m2) denitrification/anaerobic ammonium oxidation (denitrification/anammox, 8.4 to treat wastewater. was maintained at no remaining nitrite accumulation rate 87.7%. This study found that effluent chemical oxygen demand increased from 24.8 mg L−1 64.9 accompanied by transformation complete nitrification. In denitrification/anammox system, reduction nitrogen required about 40% less consumption than nitrate. High removal achieved total inorganic 2.7 without addition. work provided demonstration low-carbon high-nitrogen removal.
