Abstract As an ideal in vitro model, brain‐on‐chip (BoC) is important tool to comprehensively elucidate brain characteristics. However, the model for definition scope of BoC has not been universally recognized. In this review, divided into cells‐on‐a‐ chip, slices‐on‐a‐chip, and organoids‐on‐a‐chip according type culture on chip. Although these three microfluidic BoCs are constructed different ways, they all use chips as carrier tools. This method can better meet needs maintaining high activity a chip long time. Moreover, successfully integrated cell biology, biological material platform technology microenvironment manufacturing technology, online detection so on, enabling present structural diversity compatibility experimental expand applications. Here, relevant core technologies, challenges, future development trends summarized.
