Microalgae have long been seen as a suitable alternative to range of products like nutraceuticals, cosmetics, food additives, and feedstock for biofuels, attributable their rapid growth rate, high photosynthetic efficiency, simple requirements, accumulation valuable products. Given the increasingly severe global threat climate change, microalgal biofuels biodiesel remain one most sought-after pose favorable current first second generations unlike them, algae do not require arable land or potable water grow, thus sparing competition precious natural resources. In addition, many strains microalgae boast significantly higher lipid content than other feedstocks, at minimum 15 20 times land-based oleaginous crops. However, despite R&D efforts, they are yet be commercialized. Challenges associated with development include inadequate productivity meet commercial needs that frequently display production expense vice versa. One avenue through which remedy this issue is being pursued metabolic genetic engineering, attempts increase feasibility using next-generation enhanced lipid, triacylglycerol, content. review, several approaches geared towards increasing such control cultivation conditions, inducing nutrient starvation, use manipulation techniques outlined. This must done ensuring biosafety.
