Severely cold weather reduces the willingness of residents to open windows while cooking. This results in an insufficient replenishment makeup air and a reduction range hood discharge capacity. For effective trade-off between indoor temperature maintenance quality aggravation winter, new supply method (ceiling air) was proposed established both experimentally numerically. The improvements kitchen environment during cooking were studied through experimental tests CFD simulations, considering different arrangements. reveal that ceiling scheme can significantly reduce concentration PM2.5 compared with cracks (wherein window door are closed). Moreover, it increased by over 11.9 °C scheme. average relative error simulated data within 6.1%. Among considered factors, size inlet had largest impact. followed layout, size, shape inlets. demonstrated potential for improving residential environments severely regions.

People generally spend most of their time indoors; thus, household air pollution (HAP), especially indoor pollution, is paramount importance. In this study, real‐time particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) monitors were used to collect high temporal resolution concentrations fine PM in different microenvironments from 104 urban and rural households Guizhou Province investigate the urban–rural difference HAP contribution cooking activity HAP. Results showed that among varied largely, ranging 26.10 ± 33.27 (mean standard deviation) bedroom 69.20 72.50 μ g/m 3 kitchen while varying slightly across various microenvironments, 32.30 17.5 living room 34.65 16.37 kitchen. Cooking can rapidly increase kitchen, whose peaks at least five times higher than baseline levels. The was 18.43 12.17% 5.39 4.15% homes, respectively. Biomass burning affected significantly, where using biomass had highest levels other fuels. This study identified disparities contributions activities HAP, illustrating importance which assist controlling pollution.
