Background and objectives Adolescent physical activity is a critical determinant of long-term mental health. However, the factors influencing levels remain underexplored in rapidly urbanizing regions such as Saudi Arabia, where changing built environments pose unique challenges. Methods This study examined relationship between neighborhood safety perceptions among 1,500 adolescents aged 14–17 years cities Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, representing mix urban suburban settings. used cross-sectional design with data collected through validated self-reported questionnaires interviews; were analyzed multivariate regression. Results The results indicate that who perceived higher traffic-related concerns engaged 30% less compared to those safer neighborhoods ( p < 0.01). Female 20% more likely than male report 0.05), while residing villas 15% their peers living flats 0.05). Conclusions These findings underscore significant role shaping adolescent health behaviors, particularly regarding traffic management accessibility. contribute growing evidence influence on youth wellbeing regions. offers actionable policy recommendations for planners public officials create safer, inclusive encourage activity, especially female adolescents. Future research should adopt longitudinal designs incorporate objective measures, wearable trackers, assess impact interventions outcomes.

Urban parks are vital green spaces where people can participate in various activities. A favorable acoustic-visual environment is crucial for satisfaction, and perception may vary depending on the behavioral state. This study aimed to examine of undertaking different behaviors (sitting, walking, acoustic) explore relationship between acoustic visual perceptions satisfaction. The was conducted using questionnaire surveys (N = 1044) three urban Quanzhou, China. results showed that (1) respondents had perceptions, (2) satisfaction influenced by perception, (3) overall both (4) acoustic, visual, could be predicted via multiple linear regression. Based design strategies this study, a more comfortable activity proposed.

The assessment of human perception the thermal environment is becoming highly relevant in context global climate change and its impact on public health. In this study, we aimed to evaluate suitability use four frequently used comfort indices (thermal indices)–Wet Bulb Global Temperature (WGBT), Heat Index (HI), Physiologically Equivalent (PET), Universal Thermal Climate (UTCI)–to assess three large urban parks Central Europe, using Prague, capital Czech Republic, as a case study. We investigated relationship between park visitors, while taking into account effect sex, age, activity respondents week-time daytime their visit (assessed parameters). Park visitors were interviewed during summertime, collecting meteorological data. correlations performed explore individual indices, multivariate statistical methods explain how well variation can be explained by assessed parameters. found significant association all perception; however, was strongest with HI. While independent sex week-time, physical activity, visit. Nevertheless, effects largely conditions. Based results, conclude that are suitable for studies Europe HI seems most architects planners.

Climate change is increasingly affecting the livability and functionality of urban environments, particularly public open spaces (POSs), impacting user behavior in complex ways that require a comprehensive, multi-perspective approach to understanding. This study reviews current progress, methodologies, findings POS research by proposing critical analytical framework focused on key spatial temporal factors contribute design climate adaptive solutions. Overall, 62 significant influencing were identified categorized into four subject areas, environmental factors, attributes, population society, behavioral perceptions, which further divided 12 themes. These analyzed through two-dimensional using co-occurrence matrix examine interactions. The reveal dimensions do not operate independently but interact significantly influence usability. also indicate such as temperature, solar radiation intensity, wind speed when combined with like site facilities, greenness, walkability. Understanding these interactions essential for optimizing enhance adaptability long-term By promoting principles based empirical research, this review offers insights practical guidance future planning address change.

Squares in the urban historical built environment are public open spaces prone to risk of terrorist acts, essentially because they ideal soft targets and attract significant user densities. Risk assessment methods should consider how users behave them, both before during an accident (i.e., evacuation process). In addition squares’ morphology layout, considering that areas more effects increasing temperatures, outdoor climate conditions can alter initial scenario. fact, such lead gather specific areas, where look for shadows shelter. This work hence proposes a simulation-based approach assess differences users’ behaviours response temperatures acts emergency evacuation. An agent-based model is developed simulate interactions between users, hazards environment. The considers four typological squares since host special building attracting front it. These derived from analysis Italian contexts within BE S2ECURe project. Users generated space (thus, act) depending on intended uses square temperature, which affected by square’s morphology. Three different modelled (or not) temperature thermal acceptability levels situation. Then, two scenarios simulated: (a) general process, without attackers, as baseline assessment; (b) armed assault with cold weapons, define one most probable attack situations spaces. Evacuation performance indicators risk. Preliminary verifications demonstrate capabilities approach. results show higher noticed large asymmetric squares, their highly affect variability temperatures. At same time, stronger safety could reduce issues allow be dispersed initially placed farther area. Decision-makers take advantage proposed simulation tool, moving towards effectiveness solutions increase comfort respect Finally, applications real-world thus encouraged compare idealized effective conditions.
