ABSTRACT The increasing demand for global food resources and over‐dependence on terrestrial agroecosystems pose a significant challenge to the sustainable production of commodities. Macroalgae are an essential source in marine environment, their cultivation is promising approach alleviate impending insecurity due key factors, such as independence from agriculture, rapid growth rate, unique biochemical composition, carbon capture potential. Moreover, many countries, seaweed has been used decades because its health nutritional benefits. Seaweed contains bioactive components that beneficial against various pathological conditions, including cancer, type 2 diabetes, neurological disorders. Furthermore, natural products derived macroalgae have also found immunostimulatory antimicrobial properties. rare sugars L‐fucose, L‐rhamnose, glucuronic acid. Besides sugars, other widely reported potential cosmeceuticals. We outlined nutrient composition functional properties different species macroalgae, with emphasis value‐added market. Beyond being powerhouses, variety biological activities human biomedicine makes them excellent candidates developing novel drugs. Therefore, this review summarizes pharmaceutical applications suggests strategies incorporating macroalgae‐derived compounds into therapeutic products.

Marine polysaccharides, particularly those derived from red, brown, and green algae, have shown promising antiviral activity. Among them, sulfated polysaccharides are notable due to their broad-spectrum properties. These include direct viral destruction, inhibition of virus adsorption, disruption transcription replication, the stimulation host’s immunity. With low toxicity, minimal drug resistance, excellent biocompatibility, these represent candidates for development medications. For instance, carrageenan, a polysaccharide red fucoidan, polymer brown both been proven effectively inhibit infections. Sulfated such as found in Ulva species, also exhibit properties, including activity against Japanese encephalitis virus. function by blocking attachment viruses host cells or interfering with various stages life cycle. Moreover, marine enhance immune responses, thereby aiding clearance. Although findings highlight potential most studies conducted vitro animal models. Further clinical trials necessary validate effectiveness safety therapeutic use.

Undaria pinnatifida, an edible brown seaweed that is widely consumed in East Asia, has gained increasing recognition for its health benefits. Among bioactive compounds, polysaccharides have attracted significant attention due to their diverse biological activity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements the extraction, purification, structural characterization, and bioactivity U. pinnatifida polysaccharides. We discuss state-of-the-art extraction techniques, including ultrasound-assisted, microwave-assisted, enzyme-assisted as well purification strategies such membrane separation chromatographic methods. Furthermore, we highlight potential activity, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anticancer, gut health-promoting, anti-hyperglycemic effects, along with underlying mechanisms action. By summarizing latest research, this aims provide valuable insights into development application functional foods pharmaceuticals.
