Water bodies are often contaminated by industrial wastewater and agricultural runoff, which fail to meet regulatory standards have detrimental effects on ecosystems. This contamination poses significant risks both human health environment. Polyacrylonitrile fibres (PANF) extensively utilised across various industries, including textiles, carbon fibre production, construction materials, due their affordability cost-effectiveness. By transforming cyanide groups into active functional groups, such as amines, carboxyl quaternary ammonium salts, through crosslinking, functionalised PANF can effectively remove metal ions from wastewater, Hg2+, Fe3+ Cu2+. be employed immobilise different ligands during the electrospinning process enhance adsorption capabilities. The reaction kinetics characterised a pseudo-second-order model Langmuir isotherm model, among others. capacity is evaluated for its potential adsorb detect harmful chemicals in aqueous environments. paper examines latest advancements detection capabilities of covalently polyacrylonitrile fibres.
