This paper presents processing and characterization of hydrochar derived from bamboo via hydrothermal carbonization at 200 °C for 4 h followed by activation 600 2 h. The contains hierarchical pores. BET surface area the activated KOH reached 4.5506 m2/g. enhanced pore nanofiber formation. All bamboo-derived hydrochars can effectively harvest solar energy to evaporate seawater. KOH-activated one showed best performance with maximum evaporation rate 3.057 kg/(m2∙h).

This paper presents the processing and microstructure of carbon derived from bamboo. The bamboo grown in southern California was hydrothermally treated water at 200○C for 4 h to obtain hydrochar. Then, carbonization 600○C 2 carried out convert hydrochar into carbon. Scanning electron microscopic analysis revealed a hierarchical porous structure containing macro-, micro-, nanoscale pores. Comparative studies on carbonizing 10 wt.% KOH solution were conducted. It found that cell wall under hydrothermal weakened due etching. promotes nanofiber formation
