The paper presents the results of synthesis and study CuAl layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as well their application catalysts for selective hydrogenation crotonaldehyde. Phase-homogeneous LDHs were obtained by co-precipitation mechanochemical methods, critical parameters ensuring formation target product identified. In case coprecipitation, LDH is most affected pH reaction medium CO32−/Al3+ ratio. optimal ratio ca. 0.5–0.8 9.5–10.0. When used, at 500 m·s−2 60 min, it possible to obtain a single-phase LDH, whereas higher energies, destroyed. method makes not only reduce time amount alkaline wash water but also more dispersed copper particles with hydrogenating activity. conversion 2-butenal (T = 80 °C, P 0.5 MPa, 180 ethanol) this sample was 99.9%, in contrast 50.5% catalyst co-precipitation. It important that, regardless conversion, both showed high selectivity (S 90–95%) bond hydrogenation.
