Introduction: Permafrost and seasonally frozen soil are widely distributed on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, freezing–thawing cycle can lead to frequent phase changes in water, which have important impacts ecosystems. Methods: To understand process of freezing-thawing lay foundation for grassland ecosystems cope with complex climate change, this study analyzed investigated hydrothermal data Xainza Station Northern Tibet from November 2019 October 2021. Results Discussion: The results showed that fluctuation temperature a cyclical variation similar sine (cosine) curve; deep change was not as drastic shallow soil, had largest monthly mean September smallest January. water content curve U-shaped; increased depth, maximum minimum values certain lag compared soil. daily lasted 179 198 days be roughly divided into initial freezing period (November), stable (December–early February), early ablation (mid-February March), later (March–end April), except latter when average increase depth. trend depth at all stages consistent, negative one key factors affecting moisture. This is further understanding coupling mechanism process.
