To date, batteries are the most widely used energy storage devices, fulfilling requirements of different industrial and consumer applications. However, efficient use renewable sources emergence wearable electronics has created need for new such as high-speed delivery, faster charge–discharge speeds, longer lifetimes, reusability. This leads to supercapacitors, which can be a good complement batteries. one their drawbacks is lower capability, triggered worldwide research efforts increase density. High importance given integral components supercapacitor cell, particularly electrode materials types electrolytes that determine performance device (e.g., power output, cycling stability). Current directions development including carbonaceous forms, transition metal-based compounds, conducting polymers, discussed. synergy between material current collector key factor, well fine-tuning electrolyte.
