Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g–C 3 N 4 ), an organic photocatalyst was reported to have beneficial properties be used in wastewater treatment applications. However, g–C , its bulk form found poor photocatalytic degradation efficiency due inherent limitations such as specific surface area and fast electron–hole pair recombination rate. In this study, we tuned the physiochemical of by direct thermal exfoliation (TE–g–C ) examined their against abundant textile dyes methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (RhB). The efficiencies for MB, MO, RhB are 92 ± 0.18%, 93 0.31%, 95 0.4% respectively 60 min UV light irradiation. increased with increase temperature. prepared catalysts were characterized using FTIR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDAX, BET, UV-DRS. BET analysis, TE–g–C samples showed improved (48.20 m 2 /g) when compared (5.03 /g). Further, had 2.98 times higher adsorption than ones. free radicals scavenging studies revealed that superoxide played important role photodegradation dyes, hydroxyl radical ( . OH) photo-induced holes (h + Photoluminescence (PL) emission electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) spectra indicated a lowered pairs’ rate charge transfer respectively. excellent stability up 5 cycles only minor decrease activity from 92% 86.2%. These findings proved removal wastewater.
