Heterogeneous photocatalytic persulfate (PS) activation technologies are being intensively studied for water treatment due to their friendly environmental benefits and photosynergistic effect in comparison with traditional PS systems. Previous reviews have summarized diverse methods the role of light systems, but it is still urgent provide a comprehensive review on deep understanding rational design heterogeneous PS-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). This intends thoroughly address in-depth fundamentals mechanisms PS-AOPs. Challenges improvement strategies PS-AOPs also critically discussed. On basis detailed survey published studies, PS-AOPs, including Fe-based, TiO2-based, other metal based, bimetallic, metal-free carefully clarified. Finally, engineering implications prospects enumerated developing efficient environmentally treatment. It expected that this will motivate researchers construct novel promising

Abstract Composites‐based photocatalysis relies on the interfacial electron transfer between metallic cocatalyst and photosensitizer (the semiconductor) to realize spatial separation of charge carriers. Herein, an ingenious heterojunction Co‐CN single atom catalysts (SACs) g‐C 3 N 4 is constructed for heterogeneous photo‐Fenton‐like reactions. Driven by built‐in electric field across heterojunctions, migration photogenerated carriers promoted, leading fast from SACs. Theoretical calculations transient absorption spectroscopy reveal modulated trapping in SA‐Co‐CN/g‐C heterostructure, resulting remarkably enhanced generation reactive oxygen species via peroxymonosulfate activation under light irradiation. This /PMS/vis system efficient oxidation various antibiotics with high removal efficiency (>98%), a wide operating pH range (pH 3–11) excellent stability long‐term operation. study provides new tactic rational design SACs‐based heterojunctions bridge catalysis, attaining superior photoredox activity coupling.

Increasing quantities of pharmaceutical pollutants have been found in aquatic ecosystems. The treatment has a major task that people committed to recent years. removal can be achieved by adsorption and advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Compared with other carbon materials, biochar strong capacity persulfate activation ability, more importantly, is cheap easy obtain; thus, it higher economic benefits. This study firstly reviews the application drugs (tetracycline (TC), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), acetaminophen (ACT), cephalexin (CPX), levofloxacin (LEV), etc.) through persulfate-based AOPs. In addition, we summarize mechanism for various main attack sites on different AOPs catalyzed biochar. Finally, challenges prospects respect are put forward.
