Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of toxic bioaccumulative compounds affecting environmental human health. Conventional wastewater treatment processes ineffective at remediating these persistent chemicals. While functional framework materials have been shown to remove PFAS via adsorption catalytic degradation, there is an on-going debate about their practical use in water purification. Inspired by recent research on typical materials, including zeolites, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic (COFs), our review summarizes the principles design, properties, applications with special emphasis removal. The potential material for degradation constructively discussed, based limited studies thus far. Finally, challenges using degrade presented along sustainable design prospects improve technology. current provides new insights advancing elimination from contaminated waters.

Metal–organic framework (MOF) materials possess a large specific surface area, high porosity, and atomically dispersed metal active sites, which confer excellent catalytic performance as peroxide (peroxodisulfate (PDS), peroxomonosulfate (PMS), hydrogen (H2O2)) activation catalysts. However, the limited electron transfer characteristics chemical stability of traditional monometallic MOFs restrict their large-scale application in advanced oxidation reactions. Furthermore, single-metal site uniform charge density distribution result fixed reaction path Fenton-like process. To address these limitations, bimetallic have been developed to improve activity, stability, controllability Compared with MOFs, enhance material, promote internal transfer, even alter through synergistic effect bimetals. In this review, we systematically summarize preparation methods mechanism activating different systems. Moreover, discuss factors that affect process activation. This report aims expand understanding MOF synthesis mechanisms processes.
