Microplastic-derived dissolved organic matter (MP-DOM) exerts great effects on carbon pool and its environmental behaviors in natural waters due to increasing amounts of uncontrolled plastic disposal. However, systematic understanding chemical composition impacts MP-DOM aquatic systems was limited. In this work, the molecular structures derived from diverse characterization methods were examined synthesized provide a basis for their processes. Additionally, those factors affecting quantity quality released (e.g., types, water environments, external weathering conditions) reviewed. Furthermore, including biological degradation, adsorption mineral surfaces, interaction with pollutants, as well comprehensively summarized. Finally, we outlooked future research directions studies, aiming contribute deeper mechanisms control pollution through analysis MP-DOM. This review provides information further impact microplastics water, which might have consequences fluxes biogeochemical metal contaminants.

Tire wear particles (TWPs) exposed to the aquatic environment are rapidly colonized by microorganisms and provide unique substrates for biofilm formation, which potentially serve as vectors tetracycline (TC) influence their behaviors potential risks. To date, photodegradation capacity of TWPs on contaminants due formation has not been quantified. accomplish this, we examined ability virgin (V-TWPs) biofilm-developed (Bio-TWPs) photodegrade TC when simulated sunlight irradiation. V-TWPs Bio-TWPs accelerated TC, with rates (kobs) 0.0232 ± 0.0014 0.0152 0.0010 h–1, respectively (kobs increased 2.5–3.7 times compared that only solution). An important factor behavior was identified linked changed reactive oxygen species (ROS) different TWPs. The were light 48 h, resulting in more ROS attacking hydroxyl radicals (•OH) superoxide anions (O2•–) playing a dominant role measured using scavenger/probe chemicals. This primarily greater photosensitization effects higher electron-transfer comparison Bio-TWPs. In addition, this study first sheds effect intrinsic mechanism crucial photodegradation, enhancing our holistic understanding environmental associated contaminants.

The risks brought by microplastics (MPs) to agricultural soil structure and crop growth in the system are focus of global debate. MPs enter through various routes, such as use mulch atmospheric deposition. Here, we review research on MP pollution during last 30 years. This focuses (i) sources, types, distribution characteristics soils; (ii) migration transformation their interactions with microorganisms, organic matter, contaminants (iii) effects environmental factors composition soils. also proposes key directions for future management soil.
