The increasing reliance on fossil fuels and the growing accumulation of organic waste necessitates exploration sustainable energy alternatives. Anaerobic digestion (AD) presents one such solution by utilizing secondary biomass to produce biogas while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Given crucial role microbial activity in anaerobic digestion, a deeper understanding community is essential for optimizing production. While metagenomics has emerged as valuable tool unravelling composition providing insights into functional potential biodigestion, it falls short interpreting metabolic interactions, limiting comprehensive individual roles community. This emphasizes significance expanding scope through innovative tools that highlight often-overlooked, yet crucial, microbiota digestion. These can more accurately elucidate ecological fitness, shared pathways, interspecies interactions. By addressing current limitations integrating with other omics approaches, accurate predictive techniques be developed, facilitating informed decision-making optimize AD processes enhance yields, thereby contributing future.
