The use of municipal sludge, as a seed to initiate autotrophic nitrogen removal (ANR) process is challenging because the abundance anaerobic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AnAOB) negligible. In this study, high-height-diameter-ratio airlift inner-circulation partition bioreactor (HHAIPBR) was operated for 175 d enrich AnAOB from and performance ANR investigated. start-up period HHAIPBR inoculated with sludge required approximately 69 d. A high performance, mean TNRE 82.1%, obtained 1 month. computational fluid dynamics model used simulate volume fraction particle velocity. simulation results perfectly validated DO distribution characteristics inside reactor, further supporting promotion granulation via height-to-diameter ratio. Nitrosomonas (3.31%) Proteobacteria Candidatus Brocadia (6.56%) Planctomycetota were dominant in HHAIPBR. This study presents viable approach industrial cultivation anammox rapid PNA system.
