The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent demand for advanced air disinfection technologies. Traditional filters primarily capture large airborne particles but are ineffective against submicrometer aerosols. This study introduces a microwave-enabled catalytic filtration system using Ti3C2Tx MXene-coated polypropylene to enhance disinfection. With only 0.05 mg·cm-2 of MXene coating, filter surface temperature rapidly reached 104 °C within 3 s under 125 W microwave irradiation. Such heating led significantly higher log removal value (LRV) (1.86 ± 0.47) MS2 bacteriophage in synthetic bioaerosol with an initial concentration 105 PFU·mL-1, compared 0.24-0.38 achieved by pristine or without Additionally, exhibited promising self-cleaning behavior, as indicated stable viral inactivation and efficiency even high-humidity environments. innovative technology shows potential preventing pathogen transmission protecting public health across diverse environmental conditions.

Persulfate (PS)-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for pollutant removal have attracted extensive interest, but some controversies about the identification of reactive species were usually observed. This critical review aims to comprehensively introduce basic concepts and rectify cognitive biases appeals pay more attention experimental details in PS-AOPs, so as accurately explore reaction mechanisms. The scientifically summarizes character, generation, different species. It then highlights complexities analysis electron paramagnetic resonance, uncertainties use probes scavengers, necessities determination scavenger concentration. importance choice buffer solution, operating mode, terminator, filter membrane is also emphasized. Finally, we discuss current challenges future perspectives alleviate misinterpretations toward mechanisms PS-AOPs.
