Thermochemical treatment is significantly impacted by the physiochemical properties of lignocellulosic biomass. Traditional characterization methods lack granularity, requiring advanced analytical techniques for comprehensive biomass characterization. This study analyzed elemental composition and their distribution in untreated rice husk, straw, bamboo chips at micron sub-micron scales. Results reveal significant variations spatial metallic components among agro-residues. Thermogravimetric analysis shows divergent decomposition patterns, while spectroscopic indicates structural complexities distinct silica content. Surface mapping illustrates prevalent alkali metals on husk straw. Atomic force microscopy depicts distinctive surface morphologies, with straw exhibiting heightened roughness due to bodies. Inductively coupled plasma-mass-spectrometry identified abundance alkaline earth waste. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry elucidates localization, affirming heterogeneous across waste homogenous bridges gap between optimized thermochemical conversion outcomes.

Liquefaction conversion technology has become one of the hottest biomass methods due to its flexible material selection and extensive product applications. Exploring liquefaction focuses on catalysts, biomass/water ratio, reaction temperature. However, it is found that solvents are crucial in process significantly impact type liquefied products bio-oil yield. Given current rapid development trend, timely sorting summary solvent effect can promote subsequent industrialization more efficient cleaner technology. Therefore, this review first introduces characteristics water as solvent, then summarizes effects organic liquefaction, finally elaborates synergistic co-solvents, which provides a systematic overview process. Meanwhile, prospects put forward for future conversion.
