Abstract Ionic polymers functionalized with hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amino groups can enhance the catalytic activity of catalysts. However, straightforward preparation bifunctional ionic containing abundant active sites hydrogen bond donors remains challenging. In this study, a series porous (BZIs) different (-NH2, -OH, -COOH) were prepared through simple one-pot Friedel-Crafts alkylation using benzimidazole derivatives benzyl bromide. The structures properties BZIs characterized by various techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance scanning electron microscopy. Among catalysts (BZI-NH2, BZI-OH, BZI-COOH), BZI-NH2 exhibited highest recyclability, achieving yield 97% in CO2 cycloaddition. synergistic effect Br, (-NH-, -NH2), N+ was found to contribute its superior performance.
