Given the prevalence and risk of antibiotics advantages anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process, this study evaluated compared mainstream sidestream anammox process performance in treating wastewater containing typical β-lactam antibiotic under microaerobic conditions. The was able to tolerate higher concentrations cefalexin relatively low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, while DO slightly reduced nitrogen removal efficiency but it still than 70%. In contrast, exhibited a poor tolerance stress. Combined with metagenomics transcriptomics, comparative analysis 154 high-quality metagenomic assembly genomes consortia revealed potential mechanism mitigating Results showed that expressions genes related dissimilatory nitrate reduction ammonia were significantly upregulated condition. As dominant functional bacteria, Candidatus Kuenenia stuttgartiensis HNU0043 had detoxification ·O2– metabolism secondary product H2O2, which mainly depended on cooperation Fe–Mn family superoxide dismutase catalase. Expressions involved various carbon pathways also detected Ca. HNU0043, explaining resistance stress through biodegradation. Therefore, tolerated conditions, more beneficial for maintaining its stability. This work provides insights into molecular mechanisms underlying microbiota adaptability oxygen, further expending implementation process.
