Natural and liquefied petroleum gases are widely used in industrial heat treatment. However, the rising cost of gas, combined with increased demand, has significantly impacted production costs environment. The annealing process typically relies on natural or as primary source. Ammonia is a well-known chemical and rising candidate as hydrogen carrier. Nevertheless, its synthesis process decarbonization preliminary target. Since the Haber-Bosch loop still best path guaranteeing high yield capacity, alternative nitrogen upstream production steps have to be identified. Based on water electrolysis, Power-to-Ammonia application allows for coupling performing traditional with renewables. This configuration would minimise environmental impacts make decentralised local feasible; nevertheless, competitiveness strictly depends reducing electricity demand. Looking low consumption electrolysis technologies, work presents high-temperature solid oxide cells one of most competitive solutions showing double operation, generator oxygen concentrator, which leads H2–N2 mixture energy demand (∼8.5 kWh/kg NH3) by optimizing heat recovery simplifying plant design.
