Abstract In situ construction of active structure under reaction conditions is highly desired but still remains challenging in many important catalytic processes. Herein, we observe structural evolution molybdenum oxide (MoO x ) into carbide (MoC during reverse water‐gas shift (RWGS) reaction. Surface oxygen atoms various Mo‐based catalysts are removed H 2 ‐containing atmospheres and then carbon can accumulate on surface to form MoC phase with the RWGS going on, both which enhanced by presence intercalated species or Pt‐dopants MoO . The from accompanied CO conversion, positively correlated C/Mo ratio negatively O/Mo ratio. As a result, an unprecedented formation rate 7544.6 mmol ⋅ g catal −1 h at 600 °C has been achieved over carbonized H‐intercalated 3 catalyst, even higher than those noble metal catalysts. During 100 stability test only minimal deactivation 2.3 % observed.
