Electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) produced from recyclable resources has recently gained increasing attention due to the scarcity of high-quality natural and its broad range applications. This review summarised recent progress in recovery techniques, including pyrometallurgy hydrometallurgy. It also critically assessed processes mechanisms involved electrodeposition for Mn chloride- sulphate-based systems, with a major focus on electrode reactions nucleation growth. The key optimisation factors influencing electrodeposition, such as electrolytes, power consumption, additives, cell structures, materials, were analysed, particular their impact current efficiency, specific energy product quality. research directions highlighted address practical challenges enhance sustainability EMM process, which mainly includes improving ecological outcomes reducing both operating investment costs. Promising strategies simultaneous production electrolytic dioxide (EMD) identified, comprised applying membrane technology, ionic liquids, recycling reusing waste exploring hybrid techniques. results this study showed that prospective approaches are driven by need reduce costs, improve quality through sustainable technological advancements. can be used comprehensive guide scientific communities.
