In recent decades, the interest in responsive fibrous structures has surged, propelling them into diverse applications: from wearable textiles that adapt to their surroundings, filtration membranes dynamically altering selectivity, these showcase remarkable versatility. Polysulfone (PSF) and smart polymers (SRPs)—including polyacrylic acid (AAc), poly N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA), sulfonated poly(1,4-phenylene ether-ether-sulfone) (SPEES)—were used in the synthesis of responsive membranes (PSF-SRP) for application sustainable desalination processes involving food industry effluents water recovery recycling. With inclusion SRPs, PSF-SRP showed different characteristics when compared to PSF membrane. AAc caused fibers occur surface structure, increasing MWCO membrane, whereas NIPA SPEES diminished MWCO, resulting ultrafiltration nanofiltration membranes. In comparison with only PSF, PSF-SPEES PSF-NIPA increased flux salt rejection percentage by 20–30%. addition, highest membrane fouling was observed PSF-NIPA, while PSF-AAc PSF-NIPA-AAc presented lowest resistances.
