Novel LiDAR-detectable black double-shell hollow nanoparticles (BDS-HNPs) with internal white shell are successfully utilized as materials for autonomous vehicle paint the first time. These BDS-HNPs carefully designed to achieve excellent near-infrared (NIR) reflectance, blackness, hydrophilicity, and applicability monolayer coatings. An emphasis is placed on NIR reflectance by forming morphologies embracing multiple interfaces within nanoparticles. Accordingly, exhibit of ca. 33.2, 36.9, 40.9 R% at wavelengths 793, 850, 905 nm, respectively, comparable commercially available NIR-reflective bilayer dark-tone coating. For practical LiDAR visualization, mixed hydrophilic varnish spray-coated onto various objects. As a result, BDS-HNPs-painted objects clearly recognized three different types sensors (robot, rotating, MEMs mirror) under conditions inside outside. results demonstrate great potential new type material future driving environments.
