Abstract The spread of fake news poses a global challenge to society, as this deliberately false information reduce trust in democracy, manipulate opinions, and negatively affect people’s health. Educational research practice must address issue by developing evaluating solutions counter news. A promising approach regard is the use game-based learning environments. In study, we focus on Escape Fake , an augmented reality (AR) escape game developed for media literacy education. To date, there limited effectiveness about overcome gap, conducted field study using pretest-posttest design. total 28 students (14 girls, mean age = 14.71 years) participated. results show that can four objectives relevant detection with educationally desired effect sizes: Knowledge acquisition ( d 1.34), ability discern 0.39), critical attitude toward trustworthiness online 0.53), confidence recognizing future 0.41). Based these results, be recommended educational resource Future directions are also discussed.

Online news literacy training has been so far insufficiently conducted and evaluated, even less with younger consumers. Against the backdrop of online cognitive processing, interventions against misinformation, inquiry-based learning, we designed, conducted, evaluated a pilot 36 elementary school students from Germany. In causal comparison, quantitative data N = 29 attest high participant acceptance substantial effects on participants’ ability to correctly assess credibility, corresponding processing route, moving this intuitive analytic processing. Despite small sample, experiment was only underpowered regarding between-subject effect, whereas power sufficient for all other effects. These encouraging findings may be result knowledge reorganization associated learning. Further educational research practice are needed understand efficacy at scale.

The current research investigated (a) if political identity predicts perceived truthfulness of and the intention to share partisan news, (b) a media literacy video that warns misinformation (priming-video) mitigates bias by enhancing truth discernment. To evaluate heightened salience accounts for effects intervention, we also tested recalling prior exposure (priming-question) would yield same results as watching does. Two web-based experiments were conducted in South Korea. In Study 1 (N = 384), both liberals conservatives found politically congenial information more truthful shareworthy.
