Studies suggest that hourly digital screen time increases adolescents’ depressive symptoms and emotional regulation difficulties. However, causal mechanisms behind such associations remain unclear. We hypothesized problem-focused and/or emotion-focused engagement coping moderates possibly mediates this association over time. Questionnaire data were collected in three waves from a representative sample of Swedish adolescents (0, 3 12 months; n = 4793; 51% boys; 99% aged 13–15). Generalized Estimating Equations estimated the main effects moderation effects, structural regression mediation pathways. The results showed had effect on future depression (b 0.030; p < 0.001) moderated 0.009; 0.01). size was maximum 3.4 BDI-II scores. corroborated finding only indirectly correlated with baseline time, conditional upon intermittent problem-coping interference (C’-path: Std. beta 0.001; 0.018). did not support direct or reversed causality. conclude can increase adolescent populations through interferences other behaviors. Preventive programs could target to improve public health. discuss psychological models why may interfere coping, including displacement echo chamber phenomena.

The goal of the present study was to use machine learning identify how gender, age, ethnicity, screen time, internalizing problems, self-regulation, and FoMO were related problematic smartphone in a sample Canadian adolescents during COVID-19 pandemic. Participants N = 2527 (1269 boys; Mage 15.17 years, SD 1.48 years) high school students from Lower Mainland British Columbia, Canada. Data on use, problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, stress), collected via an online questionnaire. Several different algorithms used train statistical model predictive variables predicting use. results indicated that Shrinkage (lasso, ridge, elastic net regression) performed better than other algorithms. Moreover, FoMO, emotional, cognitive self-regulation made largest relative contribution These findings highlight importance understanding

Objectives. The effectiveness of Internet interventions for employees with depressive disorder remains controversial. We summarized all available evidence exploring the role in reducing employees' symptoms. Methods. This study was a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis that included acceptability preliminary feasibility studies. excluded programme descriptions, discussion articles protocols. followed PRISMA guidelines searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library Web Science from database inception to May 2021 published English. extracted data concerning demographics, intervention format, including interventions, control group conditions outcome measures. used random-effects model calculated Hedges' g values scores receiving versus conditions. is registered as INPLASY202160082. Results. Data 19 studies were included. These 5898 participants (2813 received 3085 groups). Conclusions. findings suggest can be effective improving depression employees. However, more randomized controlled trials are needed provide better regarding depression, robust observe interventions.

Purpose Given the limited literature on depression as a contributing factor to compulsive social media use, present research examines role of perceived depressive mood (PDM) in developing use behavior. The authors also identify and hypothesize channels such contingent self-esteem (CSE), interaction anxiety (SIA) fear negative evaluation (FNE), which may explain how PDM affects use. Design/methodology/approach model was empirically tested with survey 367 Chinese university students using structural equation modeling by drawing escape self-presentation lenses. Findings findings indicate that contributes behavior both directly indirectly through CSE. Furthermore, impact CSE is mediated FNE, whereas SIA fails mediate this effect. Practical implications results can advance authors’ knowledge process impacts These add insights into psychological treatment help in, for example, counseling programs or coping strategies depressed people protect them from excessively. Originality/value This identifies pathway mechanism between media. It increases understanding deficiencies contribute usage (CSMU).
