mud
area
in
the
northern
offshore
of
Shandong
Peninsula
constitutes
a
dynamic
source–sink
system
China’s
continental
shelf
and
is
hotspot
for
research.

provenance
sediments
remains
controversial,
depositional
environment

fully
understood.

mass
spectrometry
14C
dating,
grain-size
analysis,
clay
mineralogic
geochemical
analysis
ZZ04
sediment
core.
results
showed
that
this
core
primarily
comprises
silt
clay,
reflecting
weak
sedimentary
hydrodynamic
conditions
stable
deposition.
mineral
assemblage—illite,
smectite,
chlorite,
kaolinite—indicates
strong
physical
weathering.

mainly
from
Yellow
River,
rivers,
Yangtze
highlighting
its
multi-source
characteristics.
smectite/(illite
+
chlorite)
ratio
serves
as
mineralogical
indicator
East
Asian
summer
monsoon
(EASM).
Eight
significant
winter
(EAWM)
intensifications
were
identified,
correlating
with
global
cooling
events
similar
to
those

EAWM
