The lack of in-depth analysis on the reservoir characteristics and paleoenvironmental conditions Niutitang Formation in study area has led to an unclear understanding its geological background. In this study, core samples from well SZY1 were selected, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), quantitative elemental employed systematically investigate properties paleoenvironment shales. results indicate that shales form a low-porosity, low-permeability reservoir. By utilizing indicators such as chemical index alteration (CIA) ratios, delves into paleoclimate paleoproductivity region. (La/Yb)n ratio is approximately 1, indicating rapid deposition rate beneficial for accumulation preservation organic matter. chondrite-normalized North American Shale Composite (NASC)-normalized rare earth element (REE) distribution patterns show consistent trends with minimal variation, reflecting presence mixed sources sediments area. Analysis reveals are enriched light rare-earth elements (LREEs) negative europium anomaly, primary source rocks sedimentary granitic, located far areas seafloor hydrothermal activity. NiEF CuEF values suggest high paleoproductivity, deposited anoxic-reducing environment. depositional environments Marcellus Utica United States, Wufeng-Longmaxi black Changning Sichuan Basin, similar, characterized by anoxic reducing well-developed fractures. thermal evolution degree relatively moderate, currently peak gas generation stage, quality rated medium high, good potential hydrocarbon promising exploration prospects.

The mud area in the northern offshore of Shandong Peninsula constitutes a dynamic source–sink system China’s continental shelf and is hotspot for research. However, provenance sediments remains controversial, depositional environment not yet fully understood. This paper performed accelerator mass spectrometry 14C dating, grain-size analysis, clay mineralogic geochemical analysis ZZ04 sediment core. results showed that this core primarily comprises silt clay, reflecting weak sedimentary hydrodynamic conditions stable deposition. mineral assemblage—illite, smectite, chlorite, kaolinite—indicates strong physical weathering. was mainly from Yellow River, rivers, Yangtze highlighting its multi-source characteristics. smectite/(illite + chlorite) ratio serves as mineralogical indicator East Asian summer monsoon (EASM). Eight significant winter (EAWM) intensifications were identified, correlating with global cooling events similar to those at 1.89, 1.4, 1.03, 0.62 thousand years ago. During EAWM period, coastal current Sea warm play crucial roles transportation matter heat flux area. In contrast, during EASM are predominantly sourced contributing terrigenous materials shaped by chemical

Paleosalinity is one of the important properties paleolake water and crucial for paleoenvironmental paleoclimatic reconstruction. However, paleosalinity characteristics 1st Member in Lower Cretaceous Prosopis Formation (P1 Member) from Baobab North Sag have not been systematically reported until now. In this study, 16 representative mudstone samples were collected three coring wells detailed elemental geochemical investigations presented to reconstruct salinity types P1 Member. The results show that Sr/Ba ratios range 0.32 0.93, indicating fresh brackish water, while B/Ga 1.6 3.4, also exhibiting presence water. equivalent boron contents 84.3 ppm 185 ppm, with cast point located freshwater interval. Moreover, values ranging 1.2‰ 11.0‰ Adams’ paleosalimeter 6.1‰ 9.3‰ Couch’s are indicative precisely mesohaline After sufficiently eliminating interferences diagenesis results, combined evaluation evolutionary profiles cross-plots proxies suggest ratio most distinguishing within studied indicate two main types: (mainly distributed 4 2 sub-members) 3 1 sub-members). Furthermore, high records study area correspond arid climates, low intervals semi-arid humid pulses, which provides a useful reference reconstruction terrestrial closed lake basins during global warming period.
