Heavy metal pollution has become one of the most severe environmental issues. Adsorption is an effective method for removing heavy metals from aquatic environments. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics models can provide information on process, maximal capacity, mass transfer steps, which are essential to evaluate performance adsorbent design system. In this review, isotherms by various adsorbents were summarized discussed in depth. First, sources technology remove reviewed. capacity Cu, Cd, Zn, Ni, Cr, As, Fe, Hg, Co, Sr, Cs biosorbents (e.g. algae, agriculture waste biochar/activated carbon, bacteria) abiotic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), microtubes, polymers, clays, minerals, coal) systematically summarized. Second, origins, basic assumptions, importance, physical meanings, applications Third, methods selecting different conditions explained, statistical parameters be applied illustrated. Finally, two Excel sheets provided solving models, available Supplementary Information. This review article will deepen understanding interaction between facilitate development adsorptive removal water wastewater.

As a result of serious pollution in the water environment, sewage disposal has been receiving lot attention from industry. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) attract interest adsorption and separation due to their complex structures easily adjustable pore sizes. Magnetic MOFs inheriting advantages both large surface area easy recovery have great potentials pollutants. This paper reviews recent research progress on ions, dyes other contaminants by different types (magnetic non-magnetic MOFs) magnetic composites (Fe3O4@MOF) aqueous environments. The factors affecting pollutants, thermodynamic kinetic effects are discussed with detailed examples. Finally, challenges opportunities for further development elucidated.
