Environmental pollutants are today a major concern and an intensely discussed topic on the global agenda for sustainable development. They include wide range of organic compounds, such as pharmaceutical waste, pesticides, plastics, volatile compounds that can be found in air, soil, water bodies, sewage, industrial wastewater. In addition to impacting fauna, flora, fungi, skin absorption, inhalation, ingestion some also negatively affect human health. Fungi play crucial role decomposition cycle natural synthetic substances. exhibit variety growth, metabolic, morphological, reproductive strategies association with animals, plants, algae, cyanobacteria. There fungal strains occur naturally sediment, have inherent abilities survive contaminants, making organism important bioassay applications. this context, we reviewed applications fungal-based bioassays versatile tool environmental monitoring.

We developed an infrared (IR)-based real-time online monitoring device (US Patent No: US 10,571,448 B2) to quantify heart electrocardiogram (ECG) signals assess the water quality based on physiological changes in fish. The is compact, allowing us monitor cardiac function for extended period (from 7 30 days depending rechargeable battery capacity) without injury and disturbance of swimming activity. electrode samples biopotential amplifier microcontroller process cardiac-electrical signals. An transceiver transmits denoised electrocardiac complete signal transmission. receiver array biomedical acquisition processing system send computer. software computer processes data real time. quantified ECG indexes (P-wave, Q-wave, R-wave, S-wave, T-wave, PR-interval, QRS-complex, QT-interval) carp precisely incessantly under different experimental setup (CuSO4 deltamethrin). cue responses were chemical-specific CuSO4 deltamethrin exposures. This study provides additional technology noninvasive surveillance.

Journal of Environmental Engineering, Journal Year: 2022, Volume and Issue: 148(12)

Published: Sept. 26, 2022

This study examined the potential of aquatic macrophyte Eichhornia crassipes for bioaccumulating hexavalent chromium and its effects on plant's morphology. The macrophytes were exposed to different concentrations Cr (VI) (0–100 mg L−1) in 20% full-strength Hoagland nutrient solution 10 days. Changes measured media specific plant tissues, i.e., roots, shoots, leaves. bioconcentration factor (BCF) all parts translocation (TF) within tissues calculated twice during experiment. Results demonstrated that E. accumulated high a dose-specific manner. High BCF was observed roots up 60 L−1, after which accumulation shoots leaves greater than roots. results from survivorship indicated 40 L−1 is threshold concentration their survival under stress. Morphological changes plants by monitoring change number height varying concentrations. Impeded growth due increasing with maximum control group no (VI). Evapotranspiration losses monitored found be minimal experimental groups concentrations, displaying negative correlation contamination. Physicochemical parameters including pH, electrical conductivity, oxidation-reduction potential, color also significantly correlated time. significant as well noticeable morphological changes, making suitable organism biomonitoring remediating Cr-contaminated sites over relatively short time period.

Published: Jan. 6, 2023

Nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI) was synthesized and employed for treating chromium(VI) containing aqueous solution through adsorption using a series of microcosm experiments. The experiments were then performed to study the effects light nonaqueous phase liquid, toluene, on Cr(VI) removal by nZVI. Results showed that maximum efficiency almost 90% achieved within 300 min treatment process, while it suppressed approximately 25% in toluene's copresence. found be higher (>80%) at pH 3–7 reduced 30.3% 9. No significant change observed due under copresence (57%–65% all ranges). also from 62.7% 37.1% 82.1% 28.3% with an increase concentration (25–200 mg/L), without coexisting respectively. surface morphology structure nZVI pre- posttreatment toluene analyzed scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. results confirmed presence surface. best described pseudo-second-order kinetics (R2 = 0.97 both cases) Langmuir isotherm equilibrium model 0.95, 0.81). capacity (Qmax) 64.52 58.47 mg/g particles, Findings this provide crucial information about cocontamination its noticeable remediation contaminants concern.
