Abstract Trillion of cigarette butts are annually littered without being recycled. This work aims at valorizing the whole and their components (paper, filter tobacco) into Fe‐N x ‐C electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acid alkaline media. The pristine wastes were pyrolyzed 450 °C, activated with KOH 700 blended iron phthalocyanine (FePc) precursor, heat‐treated 600 °C to produce a robust material ORR active units. effect on final electrocatalytic activity was evaluated by thoroughly investigating surface chemistry XPS. displayed similar results among different both media due comparable chemistry, especially concerning nitrogen functional groups. highest performance obtained where from cigarettes paper (CIGF_450 CIGPF_450) showed an E 1/2 0.89 V vs RHE, slightly larger than that Pt/C 40 wt % Pt, which encouraged replace Pt‐based fuel cells.

Drugs and pharmaceuticals are an emergent class of aquatic contaminants. The existence these pollutants in bodies is currently raising escalating concerns because their negative impact on the ecosystem. This study investigated efficacy two sorbents derived from orange peels (OP) biochar (OPBC) for removal antineoplastic drug daunorubicin (DNB) pharmaceutical wastewater. adsorbents included pristine magnetite (Fe3O4)-impregnated (MAG-OPBC) biochars. Waste-derived materials offer a sustainable cost-effective solution to wastewater bioremediation. results showed that impregnation with Fe3O4 altered crystallization degree increased surface area 6.99 m2/g OPBC 60.76 case MAG-OPBC. Placket-Burman Design (PBD) was employed conduct batch adsorption experiments. efficiency MAG-OPBC (98.51%) higher compared (86.46%). DNB onto followed D-R isotherm, Langmuir isotherm maximum capacity (qmax) 172.43 mg/g 83.75 OPBC. kinetics both fitted well pseudo-second-order (PSO) model. indicate promising adsorbent treating

This study employed the mixture design method to determine optimal solvent combinations, aiming obtain refined extracts from squash peels with enhanced antioxidant properties. We optimized extraction solvents, focusing on recovering total phenolic compounds (TPC) and increased properties using a second-order polynomial equation through response surface methodology (RSM). Six solvents (MeOH, Hexane, DCM, EtOAc, BuOH, water) were assessed for their effects TPC activity in preliminary experiments. The underwent HPLC analysis composition determination further evaluated antibacterial cytotoxicity. results revealed rich content extract of Bejaoui landrace, primarily catechin (8.06 mg/g dry (DE)), followed by epicatechin kaempferol (5 DE). Antibacterial tests against Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus showed significant antimicrobial activities, especially Karkoubi batati landraces, where growth inhibitions 99%, 96%, 97%, 80% 94%, 89%, 98%, 96% respective bacteria. peel exhibited negligible cytotoxicity RAW264.7 cell line, even at high concentrations. Our findings emphasize potential due diverse compounds, suggesting use food nutraceuticals industries as sources natural agents.
