Abstract Microplastic pollution is occurring in most ecosystem, yet their presence high altitude clouds and influence on cloud formation climate change are poorly known. Here we analyzed microplastics water sampled at the summits of Japan mountains 1300–3776 m by attenuated total reflection imaging micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. We observed nine including polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polymethyl methacrylate, polyamide 6, polycarbonate, ethylene–propylene copolymer or polyethylene–polypropylene alloy, polyurethane, epoxy resin. were fragmented, with mean concentrations ranging from 6.7 to 13.9 pieces per liter, Feret diameters 7.1 94.6 μm. Microplastics bearing hydrophilic groups such as carbonyl and/or hydroxyl abundant, suggesting that they might have acted condensation nuclei ice water. Overall, our finding suggest high-altitude and, turn, modify climate.

Plastic pollution is a global concern that has grown ever more acute in recent years. Most research focused on the impact of plastic marine environments. However, increasingly being detected terrestrial and freshwater environments with key inland sources including landfills, where it accessible to wide range organisms. Birds are effective bioindicators pollutants for many reasons, their high mobility intra- interspecific variation trophic levels. Freshwater bird species under-represented compared species. We reviewed 106 studies (spanning from 1994 onwards) have plastics dwelling and/or habitats, identifying knowledge gaps. Seventy-two solely macroplastics (fragments >5 mm), 22 microplastic <5 mm) studies. A further 12 identified as both microplastics macroplastics. No study investigated nanoplastic (particles <100 nm) exposure. Research date geographical species' biases while ignoring sequestration free-living freshwater, Building baseline search presented here, we urge researchers develop validate standardised field sampling techniques laboratory analytical protocols such Raman spectroscopy allow quantification identification micro- nanoplastics therein. Future should consistently report internalised background concentrations, types, sizes forms plastics. This will enable better understanding routes exposure birds environments, providing comprehensive insight into potential impacts birds.

Abstract Plastic pollution constitutes one of the major environmental problems our time, and in recent years, it has emerged as a significant threat to environment various organisms, including bird species. In this context, study, which provides first data Türkiye, aimed determine level microplastic (MP) 12 species (Eurasian buzzard; short-toed snake-eagle; white stork; northern long-eared owl; common barn-owl; ruddy shelduck; Eurasian eagle-owl; scarlet macaw; pheasant; Indian peafowl; kestrel; gray parrot). The results indicate that MPs were detected 50% specimens (n = 20), with an average MP/item per individual. With three individual, snake-eagle was found be highest MP accumulation. Fibers (range: 51–534 µm) most type plastic gastrointestinal tract birds, ethylene vinyl acetate navy blue being polymer color, respectively. It also abundance increased weight specimens, contributing hypothesis there is correlation between size/weight animals levels These findings highlight impact on birdlife need for further monitoring assess ecological pollution.

Microplastics (MPs) are an emerging environmental health concern due to their widespread occurrence in food sources such as fish, meat, chicken, honey, sugar, salt, tea and drinking water, thereby posing possible risks human health. This study aimed observe the existence of MPs crop gizzard farm a significant source Pakistan. Twenty-four chicken samples were taken from eight poultry farms across Punjab, A total 1227 MP particles found 24 (crop gizzards) originating 8 farms. In all, 429 crops, with mean 17.8 ± 12.1 MPs/crop. contrast, 798 gizzards, 33.25 MPs/gizzard. Comparatively larger particles, ranging between 300–500 µm, more abundant (63%) than other considered sizes (300–150 µm [21%] 150–50 [16%]). Additionally, fragments dominant type shape both sample types [64%] [53%]). The predominant colours extracted gizzards crops yellow (32%) red (32%), respectively. Chemical characterisation these detected four polymers: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) at 51.2%, followed by low-density polyethylene (LDPE) 30.7%, polystyrene (PS) 13.6% polypropylene homopolymer (PPH) 4.5%. conclusion, we provide evidence for farmed chickens which may originate contaminated feed. Only few studies have been reported globally assess ingestion chickens. current is first report It could be valuable addition support literature establish relationship contamination intake through chain.
