Abstract Water-borne infections are considered as one of the major risky concerns regarding sanitary state water bodies dedicated to drinking supply. Therefore, employment environmentally benign materials in water/wastewater treatment is an indispensable aspect solve crisis problem eco-friendly and economic manner. This study describes synthesis, characterization, disinfection potency different formulas gelatin-based Gum Arabic composites, for first time. SEM, XRD, FTIR, ζ- potential, swelling tests were used assess their physicochemical properties, which revealed enhanced compatibility miscibility with increasing concentration. The formula GEL/50%GA showed more homogenously distributed pores visualized by SEM noticeable shifts characteristic FTIR-band negatively charged surface, reflecting considerable stability indicated ζ-potential. Besides, it also had superior hydrophilic swellability levels. Interestingly, results antimicrobial activity susceptibility broad-spectrum microbes against examined especially elevating concentration incorporated composite. As a natural alternative disinfectant, as-prepared composites (3 10% W/V) evaluated real wastewater samples. that (10% exhibited reduction total plate count 45.62 ± 1.48% 37.48 1.63% coliforms 58.43 2.07% 40.88 2.24% municipal industrial effluents, respectively. However, microbial metabolic via MTT assay was diminished than 50% both effluents; denoting efficient inhibiting capability GEL supplemented GA films restricting viability even unculturable microbes. Overall, antagonistic offers promising insights recruitment disciplines such anti-biofouling membranes, food coating, dietary supplements, wound healing, drug delivery.
