Abstract Certain contaminants are termed as emerging (Contaminants of Emerging Concern, CEC) since all aspects these pollutants not known and their regulation is ununiform across the nations. The CECs include many classes compounds that used in various industries, plant protection chemicals, personal care products medicines. They accumulate waterbodies, soils, organisms including humans. cause deleterious effects on animal human health. Therefore, alternative greener synthesis sustainable economic methods waste disposal, scaling up circular using sludge for removing innovative pursued. There several improvements chemical treatments electro-oxidation coupled with solar energy, high performing recycled granular activated charcoal derived from biomass few advances field. Similarly, use enzymes microbes removals a widely technique bioremediation. genetically engineered to remove hazardous dyes, metals. Novel technologies mining economically precious rare earth elements e-waste can improve economy. However, there additional need participation nations working towards Earth. should be pollution awareness local communities work along Government legislations.

Organics found in landfill leachate (humic acids, fulvic and hydrophilic fraction) have a solid ability to absorb ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which negatively affects UV disinfection; quenching substances (UVQS) can, therefore, significant impact on the cotreatment of sewage wastewater treatment plants. On other hand, per- polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS), pose potential risks environment human health, commonly exist due their wide application various industrial consumer products. Therefore, removing UVQS PFAS from is crucial. In this work, advances last decade are reviewed find standard for both contaminants lower costs space required process. The benefits drawbacks biological, physical, chemical, electrochemical treatments were examined. Physical, showed advantages over biological but higher energy and/or material costs. global analysis indicated that similar technologies, such as adsorption or osmosis, can be used effective methods remove and suggested types pollutants could eliminated simultaneously with single based one these two technologies.
