Mercury (Hg) pro-oxidant role on biological systems and its biogeochemical cycle represent a serious threat due to persistence in marine environment. As the mitochondrial genome is exposed reactive oxygen species (ROS), aim of present study validation variation number DNA copies (mtDNAcn) as biomarker oxidative stress aquatic During summer 2021, three selected fish (Mullus barbatus, Diplodus annularis Pagellus erythrinus) were collected Augusta Bay, one most Mediterranean contaminated areas remarkable by past Hg inputs, control area, both south-east Sicily. The relative mtDNAcn was evaluated qPCR specimens each from sites, characterized respectively higher lower bioaccumulation. M. barbatus P. erythrinus showed dramatic reduction compared their groups while D. an incredible rising suggesting resilience this species. These results align with dynamics fission fusion triggered environmental toxicants. In conclusion, we suggest implementation valid tool for early warning stress-related impacts system.

Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) predominantly considered a metabolic disease is now being an inflammatory as well due to the involvement of meta-inflammation. Obesity-induced adipose tissue inflammation (ATI) one earliest phenomena in case meta-inflammation, leading advent insulin resistance (IR) and T2DM. The key events ATI are orchestrated by macrophages, which aggravate state upon activation, ultimately systemic chronic low-grade Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) through proinflammatory cytokines. CD44 receptor on macrophages overexpressed ATI, NASH, IR. Therefore, we developed targeted Hyaluronic Acid functionalized Graphene Oxide Quantum Dots (GOQD-HA) nanocomposite for tissue-specific delivery metformin. Metformin-loaded GOQD-HA (GOQD-HA-Met) successfully downregulated expression cytokines restored antioxidant status at lower doses than free metformin both palmitic acid-induced RAW264.7 cells diet induced obese mice. Our study revealed that nanocarrier enhanced efficacy Metformin primarily acting therapeutic agent apart from drug platform. properties stem HA GOQD having anti-inflammatory respectively. This unravels function option meta-inflammation where itself acts agent. Graphical

Mitochondria, pivotal to cellular metabolism, serve as the primary sources of biological energy and are key regulators intracellular calcium ion storage, crucial for maintaining homeostasis. Dysfunction in these organelles impairs ATP synthesis, diminishing functionality. Emerging evidence implicates mitochondrial dysfunction etiology progression diverse diseases. Environmental factors that induce dysregulation raise significant public health concerns, necessitating a nuanced comprehension classification mitochondrial-related hazards. This review systematically adopts toxicological perspective illuminate functions mitochondria, offering comprehensive exploration how toxicants instigate dysfunction. It delves into disruption initiation fragility autophagy, induction mutations DNA by mutagens. The overarching objective is enhance our understanding repercussions damage on human health.
