Constructed wetland-microbial fuel cell (CW-MFC) has excellent effect and potential in wastewater treatment based on many factors, such as fillers, hydraulic retention time (HRT), influent chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration, plants. This study explored the influence of COD concentrations, HRT performance CW-MFC systems to optimize operation. Two CW-MFCs with pyrite activated carbon anode materials (PCW-MFC ACW-MFC) were set up, respectively. The results showed that prolonging could improve nutrients' removal efficiency voltage output. concentration had a positive import COD, nitrate-nitrogen (NO3−-N), total phosphorus (TP) CW-MFCs. On contrary, ammonia-nitrogen (NH4+-N) decreased change trend increasing first then decreasing increase concentration. optimal operating conditions 200 mg/L 24 h. Moreover, it found overall PCW-MFC was better than ACW-MFC. Microbial community analysis evaluated abundance autotrophic denitrifying bacteria Thiobacillus, Dechloromonas, Pseudomonas cathode layer higher ACW-MFC, indicating effectively promote bacterial reproduction nitrogen electrogenesis.
