Abstract The field study aims to address identified research gaps by providing valuable information on the concentration, spatial distribution, pollution levels, and source apportionment of toxic essential elements in sediment samples from four sampling sites (P1: Beira Rio (urban area), P2: Bananal (rural P3: Embiral P4: Cidelândia area) distributed along middle Tocantins River, Brazil. Samples were collected 2023 river sections analyzed using various contamination índices (geoaccumulation index, factor, enrichment load potential ecological risk coefficients, integrated index). Results indicated that levels aluminum, iron, manganese, selenium exceeded legal standards year. Chromium, nickel, copper, zinc, lead guidelines, mainly section P1 for aluminum P3 nickel lead. Rainy months showed increased presence, indicating seasonal variability. geoaccumulation index low with notably present near urban industrial areas. factor highlighted elevated concentrations zinc Both PLI SPI indices raise concerns regarding Pb (P4) Zn (P3) at specific times Overall, risks deemed most sites. Continuous monitoring interventions are crucial preserve water environmental quality region.

Traditional linear correlation analysis may not fully capture the true relationship between these variables. Therefore, multi-scale running analysis, such as time-dependent intrinsic (TDIC) and continuous wavelet transform based on Hilbert-Huang (HHT), provides valuable insights into local correlations evolving nutrients environmental factors over time. In this study, we investigated seven four water quality nutrient indicators in deep lakes Yungui Plateau southwestern China. The results revealed that there be strong levels during certain periods, while opposite trends emerge at other times. These variations could attributed to uncertain physical processes, spatial heterogeneity, or impact of different climatic hydrological processes. Wavelet indicated changes lag behind those levels, particularly a cycle about 12 months. This suggests align with natural patterns after body has been polluted. conclusions underscore complexity dynamic nature bodies, highlighting importance employing advanced techniques complexity.
