Pharmaceutical discharge to the environment is of concern due its potential adverse effects on aquatic species. It estimated that around 40% pharmaceuticals target G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). The in vitro transforming growth factor-α (TGFα) shedding assay was applied measure antagonistic activities against human GPCRs. However, their ability stimulate fish GPCRs remains unclear. Here, 30 zebrafish dopamine (zD2a and zD2c), adrenergic family member (zβ1), histamine (zH1 zH3) were measured by TGFα assay. study found an interspecies difference binding affinities between zebrafish: more strongly inhibited zD2c zH1 than D2 (hD2) hH1 receptors, while zD2a zβ1 less hD2 hβ1 receptors. molecular explanations for observed differences affinity hydroxyzine bisoprolol investigated using docking. potency predicted effluent concentrations used predict equivalent quantities (EQs), these EQs prioritize wastewater England Japan. This highlights use adopting better understand ecological fish.
