Few studies exist that focus on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in transitional and coastal waterbodies. This study presents chemical profiling two protected marine harbours the South coast UK sampled 2022. Across 21 sites, 105 unique compounds were detected (0.05 ng L-1 --1798 L-1, median: 11 L-1) water samples biota, including 67 pharmaceuticals, 29 pesticides nine recreational drugs. There significant differences between campaigns with increased numbers concentrations coincided rainfall combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges. The comparison CSO discharges revealed they an important source for loading specific chemicals increasing some cases by three-orders magnitude. High relative risks estimated sites during recorded five risk quotients (RQs) ranging from 1.1 up to 9.3, highest neonicotinoid, imidacloprid. To understand exposure six species; one macroalgae (Fucus vesiculosus) fauna (Hediste diversicolor, Patella vulgate, Crassostrea gigas, Carcinus maenas, Echinogammarus marinus) analysed (n = 5/species) at a CSO-impacted site. Between eight 18 Fucus vesiculosus (seaweed) showing accumulation mean cumulative burdens reaching 343 ± 71 g-1. Surface contamination did not correlate body burdens. Overall, work highlights complexity space present waterbody dynamic patterns are further influenced tide, salinity. CSOs demonstrated but compound role CEC input pulsing into receiving waters.
