Abstract Background The fundamental way to solve the problems of single species, poor stress resistance, and low yield in Chinese eucalypt plantations is scientifically utilize heterosis select new varieties with rich genotypes. In order reveal genetic mechanism formation growth, based on previous research relationship between parental combining ability, we selected two artificial hybrids 18H167 (T15 × U3423) 19H74 (U3423 U6) significant differences birth length similar relationships as objects. Results Transcriptome analysis using RNA-seq technology showed that correlation gene expression levels indicated male parent had a greater impact growth. Based GO KEGG annotations, GSEA enrichment WGCNA identified 8 pathways 7 Hub genes may be related growth eucalypt. These candidate are ribosomal subunits, extracellular regulatory mechanisms, three amino acid synthesis pathways. From their biological functions, strongly correlated ability adapt environmental stress. AS events were significantly higher than those parents, SE possibly disadvantage RI more likely advantage. Conclusions This study provides in-depth exploration which expected guide selection parents hybrid breeding. discovery genes/pathways information for genome or molecular marker assisted
