Abstract Anchoring groups play an important role in the assembly of functional molecules onto semiconductor substrates for dye‐sensitized photocatalysis. In addition to directly influencing adsorption stability, anchoring significantly impact efficiency electron or hole injection into substrate, which is a crucial step photocatalytic reactions. Most reported systems, including nanoparticles and photoelectrochemical cells, are prepared using carboxylic phosphonic acid anchors. The systems with these conventional anchors usually suffer from low stability aqueous media. Alternatively, pyridine has emerged as group photosensitizers molecular catalysts construction systems. resulting photoelectrodes show superior media, providing simple efficient way sensitize metal oxide substrate. This review focuses on recent advances such strategy applications, mainly water oxidation, reduction, splitting. further exploration understanding pyridine‐anchoring method believed boost development advanced devices technologies.
