Owing to its unique blend of properties, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has become one the most important polymers that have been used in everyday life for many years. Its short- and long-term applications span multiple key industries such as building, electrical/electronic insulation, packaging, healthcare. These produce high volumes PVC solid items require responsible management when they reach their end-of-life because are not biodegradable. Simple affordable methods diverting this waste from landfills would contribute positively towards combating environmental problems. However, approaches reported literature there is a need collate easier comparison. For example, some alternative highly effective transforming into range valuable products but still associated with secondary pollution. This overview covers different facets virgin (rigid, semi-rigid, flexible), focusing mainly on importance, global increase use, waste’s recyclability. In addition pros cons recycling strategies, influence specific factors expanding market also considered albeit briefly. Notably, [Formula: see text]50 % world’s annual production utilization capacity accounted by meant building applications; these drive growth market.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a polymer comprised of more than 50% chlorine that offers unmatched versatility at low expense. PVC irreplaceable in several applications, such as construction materials, medical and cables. This tunable properties come the cost complex formulations for product challenging end-of-life (EoL) options waste. Pure collected sorted already recycled successfully to some extent, yet, when ends up mixed plastic waste stream, it can be detrimental recycling process. its effects various concentrations remain focal point both scholars policymakers.
