Abstract Supercritical fluid impregnation (SFI) is an emerging technique for the incorporation of target compounds into solid matrices. It has attracted attention in food industry, where it can be applied. As does not use organic solvents and supercritical CO 2 most commonly used fluid, SFI considered to ecofriendly ‘green’ strategy. A review literature essential order understand complex interactions that occur SFI. This a scoping applied industry from 2018 2023. The search Web Science, Scopus, Science Direct databases. Guiding questions were identified, publications related topic selected, information was extracted, organized, grouped. An overview SFI, its operational characteristics, challenges, prospects, strategies presented. Initially, 329 records found; 38 eventually selected inclusion this review. results indicate packaging sector been focus publications. However, trends include applications micronization, developing waste biorefineries, protection direct impregnation. analysis therefore powerful tool creating new research application food.
